Unlike many TEDx events in the Bay Area, we are holding ours late into the evening, on a weeknight. Originally conceived in the spirit of a TEDx “Afterhours,” perhaps as loud and engaging as a Broadway musical. Our venue, San Francisco’s Temple Nightclub, has spectacular sound and light capabilities, and we intend to use those to maximize the participant experience. Some friends joked we were working on an “Intellectual Rave” -- we kinda liked that concept. As an evening, we hope to entertain, inspire and allow for new friends to be made among all.
The doors will open at 6pm at Temple on 540 Howard Street, downtown San Francisco on December 1, 2010 for registration and a dinner, served in The Catacombs from 6:00 to 7:30.
TEDxAlcatraz begins at 8:00 p.m. sharp, and will run until shortly after midnight. The show will be divided into two 80+ minute sessions with a 40-minute break between the sessions for networking, and grabbing a drink. There will be between three and five musical or talking presenters in each presentation block. Following the second session, there will be a reception that will run at least an hour, and may include additional live music. We have to depart the Nightclub by 2:30am.
We are hoping our next TEDxAlcatraz event will be on Alcatraz Island itself, and as a TEDxAlcatraz attendee you will be invited to join us at more TEDxAlcatraz events.
